I started decorating eggs around 1999 when I came across a book on how to decorate them using a batik-like process and gave it to my grandmother, who had some geese and loved to decorated their eggs. I soon bought a kit and book on how to make Ukrainian Eggs and ended up trying it myself and ever since I have loved to make batik eggs whenever I have time. I enjoy recreating pysanky designs from many different design books as well as coming up with my own contemporary designs, and sometimes mixing up the two. I draw inspiration from anything I find beautiful or interesting. I love the symbolism and folklore that can go into the egg, as if the egg itself is telling a story, or giving someone a blessing or wishes for their life. I mostly work on chicken eggs, but have also used quail, duck and goose eggs. I have some emu, rhea, turkey and ostrich eggs in my stash that I will get to one of these days. It's been a rewarding experience to share them with others, and I hope to continue doing it as long as I can!
